Hear Our Voices 2024 – End of Year Celebrations

Over the past two weeks, LVAGNH has celebrated the incredible efforts of our students, tutors, and staff with three End of Year celebrations. Students were encouraged to write an essay in early spring and submit it for our year-end publication, Hear Our Voices. The Meriden/Wallingford event had four student speakers who read their essays at the event, Greater New Haven had eight, and the Valley had six (including three video submissions!).

All the essays were heartfelt and beautiful! The students’ tutors were there to support them. From our Meriden/Wallingford Site Director, Denise Calabrese: “This event is my favorite event of the year, it reinforces why we do what we do and how important our volunteers are to our program. Without Volunteers we have no tutors and without the tutors we have no program which would leave these students to struggle to learn English on their own.”

Many thanks to our keynote speakers, Dr. Scott Kalicki, Interim CEO of CT State Gateway, and Maria Harlow, Executive Director of United Way of Meriden and Wallingford.

A special thank you to CT State Gateway, Wallingford Public Library, and the Derby Neck Library for graciously hosting our events. As always, thank you to our partners, without whom we would not be able to fund our programs. We are so grateful to our tutors, staff, partners, and volunteers, for all their ongoing hard work.
