Season of Change

Student: Daniel Vines
Country: USA
Tutor: Gene Kirsten
Site: Literacy Resource Center

My name is Daniel Vines. I was referred to LV by the agency I am with–the American Job Center. I needed help in both reading and math. I have passed the reading test. Currently I am studying with tutor Gene Kirsten to pass the math test.

I am hoping to get into a bookkeeper training program. I have been involved with Chapel Haven for 19 years. I have learned life skills such as cooking, budgeting, doing chores such as cleaning the apartment and doing laundry, as well as shopping for groceries, and social and communication skills with my peers. I have also learned how to do a job search.

Since the beginning of the year, I have lost 10 pounds by exercising and eating healthier. This has changed my lifestyle where I feel better both emotionally and physically. I feel that I have come a long ways in the past 40 years where I have overcome my disabilities. This has given me more confidence in myself, and I have lived on my own for the past 17 years.
